Alexander Star (Showcase A1): Alexander Star is an Emmy®-nominated songwriter and 'keynote performer,' delivering concerts that uplift, energize, and inspire audiences across the US and abroad. The ‘Alexander Star & The Golden People’ experience is a ‘story-time’ concert series fueled by unity and garnering undeniable impact, from official Super Bowl endorsements to performances inside the United Nations. Picture an engaging TED Talk in live concert format, performed in a manner reminiscent of Hamilton the Musical, yet delivered in a style that's authentically unique to Star and his South Florida-based band. "Our flavor is Hip-Hop, Jazz, Reggae, Rock, and R&B…blended into a ‘smoothie’ by gifted musicians who grew up playing in church…served by the voice of a Black & Ashkenazi Jewish lyricist who sings & raps with the intention to change the world for the better." - A. Star Off the stage, Alexander Star has dedicated 10+ years of musical mentorship toward amplifying youth voices by helping students write and record original songs. His experience hosting hundreds of these sessions with at-risk teens (survivors of abuse, trafficking, and the foster care system) helped Star develop a natural gift for empowering others

artist image: Duende Libre

Duende Libre (Virtual Showcase 1A): Duende Libre is an award-winning jazz quintet whose original music combines jazz virtuosity with roots rhythms from Cuba, Brazil, and West Africa into a "strikingly authentic blend. Each having apprenticed with direct descendants and master musicians of these traditions, they consider themselves disciples of their teachers. The result: a euphoric new jazz that honors its historical roots, pushing open the boundaries of genre to invoke a powerful sonic freedom. "Hopeful in sound as well as in ideological foundation, [the band creates music] full of heart and historical multitudes," PopMatters wrote. Each member is equally passionate and dedicated to passing on the traditions through countless workshops, masterclasses, residencies, and other educational programs offered throughout Washington, Montana, Alaska, Michigan, and beyond. We will perform several selections from our vast repertoire that highlight elements of our signature style, including traditional percussion like the berimbau and sangban, dazzling improvisation, and infectious rhythms. We invite you to move as we embark on a "sonic voyage unlike any other."

artist image: Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience

Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience (Showcase A3): Shaun Johnson and his Big Band Experience began as a charitable project and creative outlet removed from Shaun’s "day job" as lead singer of Tonic Sol-fa (an all-vocal, Emmy-winning quartet). In the Big Band Experience, the essence of the big band era is ever-present, and that spirit resulted in a recent Top 5 Billboard Jazz album. But this is no tribute group. The classic and the contemporary blend seamlessly, resulting in an innovative sound that consistently has its finger on the pulse of modern music while never easing up on the red-hot and rebellious beat of the big band era.

TheatreWorks USA (Showcase A7): DOT DOT DOT: A New Musical is an exciting new musical based on the Creatrilogy trio of award-winning picture books by New York Times bestselling author Peter H. Reynolds: The Dot, Ish, and Sky Color. Adapted by composers Keklay Gipson and Sam Salmound, the musical, like the series, celebrates the power of originality, self-expression, and opening our eyes to look beyond the expected. When Marisol (Sky Color), a young artist and curator of the Musee de Marisol, decides that her gallery requires more than her own art, her search for emerging talent leads her to Vashti (The Dot), whose dots inspire Ramon (ish) to become an artist in his own right. The musical follows Marison's journey to help her new friends and her entire community break free from self-criticism and learn to let their imaginations soar.
