The Derina Harvey Band (Showcase B1): The Derina Harvey Band has left many an audience out of breath and hollering from their seats! This multi-award-winning Celtic Rock group delivers on entertainment with Derina Harvey’s soaring vocals combined with the band’s impeccable musicianship featuring guitar, bass, fiddle, and drums. The band has been likened to Great Big Sea (if fronted by Adele), and Derina's vibrant personality is on full display with humour and storytelling - a key part of this unique show, which is as theatrical at times as it is musical.
Recently, the group has acquired a huge wave of new online followers from across the globe via TikTok, where there was recently a sea shanty craze. dHb’s recording of Tom Lewis’s “The Last Shanty” was used in thousands of videos on the platform, introducing the band to a whole new generation of listeners and causing their social media and streaming numbers to skyrocket. (The band has now eclipsed 10 million streams on Spotify!)
Steve Brogan (Showcase B2): The Mannequin Mayhem Show, created by Steve Brogan, is a personal narrative of his childhood dream realized: "Bringing Laughter to Life". To call Steve a solo act can be deceiving, as he demonstrates a lifetime of performing ventriloquism by breathing life into each cast member. Steve’s performance is family-friendly entertainment combined with a standup comedy routine and a personal life story that embodies the resurgence of the ancient art of ventriloquism back into pop culture. For over 30 years, this quick-witted professional has continued to provide an unforgettable experience for theatergoers. His hilarious cast of characters will delight audiences of all ages with this dynamic, interactive, and larger-than-life show.
SHARP Dance Company (Showcase B3): SHARP, known for its collaborative and socially conscious work, offers treasures seldom seen on stage. The company connects people and communities through "story-driven movement. "The six dancers exquisitely convey company founder and artistic director Diane Sharp Nachsin’s choreographic ideas with finely executed technical finesse."-DC Theater Arts. Our ArtsMarket program will consist of excerpts from three works: PUZZLE, Blind Faith -Part 3, and I AM HERE.
John Brown Big Band (Virtual Showcase 1B): Our showcase will feature a 17-piece jazz ensemble, one of several ensembles John Brown leads. This group preserves the tradition of performing repertoire best experienced when played by such a powerful ensemble. We perform standards from the great American Songbook, preserving traditional approaches to this time-tested and recognizable material as well as performing a slate of refreshing new arrangements of that material. Further, our music reflects modern times, and our performances also highlight new compositions and contemporary approaches to writing, including some original compositions. During our showcases, we take our audience on a "Tour of Jazz," a program title we use that aligns with the flexibility we offer presenters, while we follow their guidance about what would best suit their audiences. We pack the showcase with excitement, variety, and a sampling of the many different things we do, including educational and holiday programming. You will hear a bit of everything!
Reggie Rice (Showcase B4): Step into the world of Reggie Rice's "FOOL OF ILLUSIONS," a mesmerizing family-friendly 90-minute grand magical illusion show that will leave you in awe. Dasan Ahanu (Showcase B5): This is a unique live band and spoken word experience led by award-winning poet, spoken word artist, and emcee Dasan Ahanu. Each poem is blended with new and recognizable grooves to create a performance experience unlike anything else. Stories are brought to life on stage to a backdrop of dynamic jazz and soul instrumentation. The performance takes audiences on an eloquent musical journey of joy, hope, love, resilience, and courage.
Tel Aviv Wind Quintet (Virtual Showcase 2B): The Tel Aviv Wind Quintet is one of the most successful chamber music groups in Israel, offering a dynamic range of entertaining repertoire and a staged version of Peter and the Wolf in English. Larry & Joe (Showcase B6): Larry & Joe is the duo of Joropo maestro Larry Bellorín and GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass star Joe Troop. These two multi-instrumentalists combine their respective Venezuelan and Appalachian folk traditions to prove that music has no borders. Their engaging bilingual (Spanish/English) program includes virtuosic folk fusion music, storytelling, humor, singalongs, and dancing.
Carolina Sound (Showcase B7): Carolina Sound, the premier a cappella group out of the University of Mount Olive, will be performing a mash-up of contemporary songs that they currently perform in venues across the country. From Broadway selections to modern pop music to contemporary Christian favorites, there is something for everyone.
